Who was M. Visvesvaraya
Born on September 15, 1860, the birthplace of M Visvesvaraya is Mysore (Karnataka). From childhood, they were extremely promising in studies. Vishweshwaraiah, a Bharat Ratna honored with the help of the Mysore government, enrolled in the Science College of Poona for engineering studies. After this, he was appointed to the post of Assistant Engineer in Nasik in Maharashtra Government. With the efforts of Vishveswaraya, famous for the name of Sir MV, Krishan Raja Sagar Dam, Bhadravati Iron and Steel Works, Mysore Sandal Oil and Soap Factory, Mysore University, Bank of Mysore have been built.
Importance to education
Sir MV gave importance to education since childhood, the number of schools increased from 4,500 to 10,500 in the state of Mysore state. With this, the number of students also reached from 140,000 to 3,66,000. Visvesvaraya is also credited for opening a separate hostel and first-grade college (Maharani College) for girls in Mysore. In those days all the colleges of Mysore were affiliated to the University of Madras. Due to their unremitting efforts, the University of Mysore was established which is one of the oldest universities in the country. Given his work, he was honored with the highest Indian honor Bharat Ratna in the year 1955.
