WWE Smackdown results: 7 things you missed overnight as Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn lose handicap main event

Like Monday Night Raw, Smackdown is working on the Royal Rumble, and Tuesday's show had a big impact on this month's pay-per-view.

Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin offered their reaction to the Usos last week, while Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens' ongoing feud with Shane McMahon rumbled on.


AJ Styles, Ruby Riott, Becky Lynch, Rusev, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura were all in action on Tuesday night.

Here are seven things you missed overnight from this week's episode of Smackdown ...

Becky Lynch announces Royal Rumble intentions, defeats Ruby Riott

After returning to Smackdown last week, Becky Lynch is making her presence felt once again, and before taking on Ruby Riott, she has announced that she will be entering the women's royal rumble at this month's pay-per-view.

Having been taken out by The Riott Squad in November, Lynch was back to take on the riot one on one, and claimed his dis-arm-her submission, giving Lynch momentum while leaving the Riott Squad his next move to think.

The Bludgeon Brothers pick up another dominant win
Since returning to Smackdown as The Bludgeon Brothers, Luke Harper and Erick Rowan have been dismantling the Smackdown tag team division, brutally attacking both Breezango and The Ascension last week.

This week, they were handed a match against The Ascension and won in convincing fashion once again, leaving both Konnor and Viktor on the ground with a dominant victory.

Mojo Rawley defeats Zack Ryder, advances in United States Championship tournament
The tournament to crown the new United States Champion following Dolph Ziggler's decision to vacate the title goes on, as Mojo Rawley and Zack Ryder - formerly Hype Bros teammates - facing off.

It was Rawley who claimed the win, hitting a fierce elbow in the corner to defeat Ryder and advance to face Bobby Roode in the next round, with Xavier Woods taking on Jinder Mahal in the other semi-final.

Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin argue their case
Last week, we saw The Usos retain their Smackdown Tag Team Championship, but only just, having initially lost them to Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin, before the match was re-started over.

This week, a clear furious Gable and Benjamin came out to state their case, directing their fury at the second weekend in the last week's match, accusing him of being jealous as he is not a winner, and has never succeeded before

Smackdown general manager Daniel Bryan emerged to calm the situation, and whilst Gable and Benjamin initially confrontational, Bryan handed the pair to another shot at the Smackdown Tag Team Championship in a two out of three falls match at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view.

Breezango pick up shock over  Rusev Day
Rusev Day - The team of Rusev and Aiden English - have been grabbing more and more fans by the week, and they have been looking at some momentum this week having announced that they will both in the Royal Rumble match.

A match against Breezango appeared to be a good chance to get a win, but Tyler Breeze and Fandango claimed a shock win, with Fandango rolling up Rusev for the win in a major surprise result.

Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura eye up the WWE Championship

With Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens set to take on AJ Styles for the WWE Championship in a handicap match at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Shane McMahon decided to book a handicap match of his own for Smackdown's main event, pitting Owens and Zayn against AJ Styles, Randy Orton and Shinsuke Nakamura

Before the match, WWE Champion Styles had seen the match tactics with Orton, only for The Viper to suggest that he would win the Royal Rumble, and will be coming for Styles' title when he does, before fellow teammate Shinsuke Nakamura also suggested that he wants a shot at the title, leaving Styles rattled before the main event.

Shane McMahon restarts the main event twice

Styles did not need to worry though, as his team worked well in a bizarre main event, which saw Owens and Zayn attempt to leave the match, before Shane McMahon emerged to change the match to a no count-out match.

Owens would later hit Orton with a chair to force a disqualification, only for McMahon to restart the match again, this time under 'anything goes' rules - and Owens was taken out of the picture by Styles as the pair fought backstage.

That left Zayn all alone against Nakamura and Orton, and after being hit with a Kinshasa and an RKO, Zayn was pinned by Orton for the victory
